SUMMARY:West Bay Community Theater to present CHICAGO – IN CONCERT in August
DESCRIPTION:North Kingstown\, RI – West Bay Community Theater presents its August 2025 production of CHICAGO – IN CONCERT on Saturday\, August 16th at 7:30pm at the North Kingstown Town Beach bandshell (rain date Sunday\, August 17th.) \n\n\n\nWBCT returns to the beach with their annual musical extravaganza. Besides a high-quality musical theater experience\, audience members will enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the NK Town Beach as well as food truck offerings from Hometown Poke\, The Daily Delish\, and Palagis. \n\n\n\nThis production of CHICAGO-IN CONCERT is music-focused\, with minimal staging in addition to multimedia support (live video enhancement and show-related imagery). All music will be live with no pre-recorded and/or backing tracks. It’s a feast for the eyes and ears in a hybrid musical theater event! Audience members are encouraged to bring blankets\, lawn chairs\, insect repellant\, and anything else that you need to be comfortable on an August night at the beach. \n\n\n\nWBCT has had its eyes on Chicago for a long time\, especially after their successful 2023 production of Cabaret. \n\n\n\n\n“Chicago and Cabaret are both Kander and Ebb classics\,” says show Director Terry Shea. “They are sister shows in a way\, but Chicago is certainly more whimsical and charming. Where Cabaret is darker and ends starkly\, Chicago\, for all its harsh reality and exploration of fame and the media\, leaves audiences smiling and singing along. We may not love all the protagonists of Cabaret\, but everyone roots for the two killer (quite literally) divas of Chicago\, as well as most everyone else in the story. It’s a tale of survival\, street smarts\, and gaming a rotten system\,  but if you live – they love you! We have an eager and talented cast and a crack orchestra waiting to pull out all the stops for this one. Chicago is one of those shows that\, even if you aren’t very familiar\, you’ll realize that you know more of this music than you thought you did. SUMMARY:Christmas at the Castle
DESCRIPTION:Free Admission AT Christmas at the Castle 2024 to Honor North Kingstown’s 350 Anniversary \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis year the Christmas at the Smith’s Castle Committee is collaborating with the 350th Committee and HistWick to celebrate the anniversary year of the founding of Kings Towne by the Colonial government. In commemoration of that anniversary\, admission to the event will be free to the public. \n\n\n\nThe Castle has been a partner in history with North Kingstown from the very beginning of the Colony. In 1674\, Kings Towne contained much of the old “Narragansett Country\,” including large parcels of land owned by the Smith family and its descendants\, the Updikes. After King Philip’s War\, Richard Smith’s grandson\, Lodowick Updike\, laid out the Village of Wickford adjacent to Cocumscussoc and promoted the sale of house plots there. This year displays at the event will feature more information relating to North Kingstown’s history. \n\n\n\nChristmas at the Castle 2024 (December 7th and 8th\, 12-4 pm) continues a holiday tradition of over 50 years. If concerts cannot be held outside due to weather\, they will be held at North Kingstown High School. \n\n\n\nSkög Award Presentation During Concert\n\n\n\n50-50 raffle to help purchase a bench in Geoff and Sally’s honor. \n\n\n\nThe Skög Award Recognizing Excellence In Creative Contributions To The Community of North KingstownThank you for joining the North Kingstown Arts Council in posthumously honoring the accomplishments of Sally Meland with the 2023 Skög Award. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Skög Award was created in remembrance of Geoff Skög\, the longest standing member of the North Kingstown Arts Council\, who passed away in 2008. Geoff was an exemplary person\, artist\, businessman\, volunteer\, mentor and leader in the community. The Award was created to recognize the value of characteristics which he embodied\, and to encourage these qualities from members of our community. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCelebrated Qualities: \n\n\n\n\nCommunity service & community building\n\n\n\nMentoring\n\n\n\nAltruism\n\n\n\nGet it Done attitude\n\n\n\nDuty and adventure\n\n\n\nSense of humor and fun\n\n\n\nClarity & simplicity\n\n\n\n\nWe are happy to present the Skög Award to Sally Meland’s family for her many contributions to our community and as a wonderful representative of the above mentioned qualities. \n\n\n\nOur previous Skög Awards honored: Tim Cranston\, Ted Whittaker\, and Lou Cahoone. Our 4th award honors Sally Meland\, creator of the NK Arts Council Tuesday Night Concerts\, and so much more. She was a force behind the NK Arts Council. Read about her many accomplishments below and join us in honoring her at the Brass Attack Concert.  \n\n\n\nWho was Sally Meland\, the 2023 recipient of the Skög Award?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrimarily\, she was a terrific person who was determined to get the job done! \n\n\n\n\n1985 ~ She created the\, now annual\, Festival of Lights in Wickford in to raise money for the NKHS Concert Choir trip to a music competition in Montreal.\n\n\n\n1986-1990 ~ She organized Sunday Musicales at the NK Library. Elizabeth Donovan continued the program.\n\n\n\n1995 ~ She created the Tuesday Night Concert series. They were originally held behind Earnshaws! She worked hard to have a wide variety of music from a Swedish Acapella group\, Irish Jigs\, blue grass and oldies. And\, she started the tradition of Brass Attack playing every year!\n\n\n\n\nThose were the big things\, but Sally was also behind many of the little things that make the arts scene in NK as rich as it is today. Sally moved to Castle Rock\, Colorado in 2005. She passed in August\, 2022. \n\n\n\nThe NK Arts Council along with the Blue Bus Foundation\, the Meland Family\, personal donations\, and proceeds from a 50-50 raffle have purchased a bench that will be located near the bandstand at the beach. The plaque will read: “Sally Meland\, A Force Behind NK Arts & Rec.” \n\n\n\nPlease join us in honoring her at the Brass Attack Concert! \n\n\n\nSummer Concert Series Presented by:
