Blood at the Birthplace

November 1, 2025 @ 6:00 pm November 2, 2025 @ 7:00 pm

At the quiet birthplace of Gilbert Stuart—America’s great portrait painter—a darker portrait is drawn in blood.

Join Beth Berry for an immersive and haunting retelling of the true 1891 killing that shocked Rhode Island.

Captain George N. Kenyon, was a wealthy, eccentric hotelier and former sea captain with dreams of capitalizing on the iconic Gilbert Stuart Birthplace.  John McGinnis was a well known a carpenter and laborer employed to make this dream a reality.  The two men clashed over wages and violence ensued.

On that clear summer’s day in 1891 shots rang out at the Gilbert Stuart Birthplace.  Was it murder or self-defense?
